Oh dear...

I don't mean to be a pain...but I think I may have broken my apartment. I came into the bathroom to take my shower and flicked the light switch and there was a flash and then darkness. Now I keep flicking the light switch but the lights gone. Did I use up all the magic?

...You mean the light bulb, right, Sarasim?

No, I'm almost positive the light came from a glass dome on the ceiling.

That's a light bulb.

I'll come over and show you how to replace it.

Thank you...I was worried I'd have to go chop some firewood...large trees are hard to find in Neon.

Sounds like the light bulb just burned out.

I didn't smell any smoke...

Oh, there wouldn't be. Not unless something really went wrong, anyway. Need some help fixing it?

My friend just told me she could show me how to replace it...but I'm sure she would appreciate the assistance. I really am very embarrassed, I'm not sure what I did wrong. I just flicked the switch like I do every morning.

It's not that hard, really. Just unscrewing the dead bulb and putting a new one in.

You didn't do anything wrong, they just burn out after a certain amount of time.

It can die? How horrible I didn't realize my magic light was coming from a living creature!

It's not. It's just a figure of speech. You know how metal will glow if it's heated up enough? Same thing. There's a piece of metal inside the bulb that gets heated up by electricity until it starts glowing.

...Peter

Sorry, science geek sense were tingling. Carry on.

OH I get it now! My tribe invented electricity so we could help re-charge cyborg...it only worked for a few minutes though.

So...in that glass dome there is a piece of metal that needs to be replaced?

From: [identity profile] livingontheweb.livejournal.com
Sort of, yes, but it's simpler just to replace the whole thing.

I see...my friend said she could help with this.

Tell me...do you also know if the magic light inside the food storage remains on when it closes?

Nonono. Okay no more using slang.

It's a really thin piece of metal suspended in a glass ball, basically. I think.

The thin piece of metal eventually burns through or falls apart, I think. Since that's what actually makes the light, once that happens it won't work anymore.

I see...hmm...perhaps I need a blacksmith then...or maybe Lorne could put a forge in my Kitchen.

...or you could just get a new light bulb.
